A new Club for regular Jazz, Blues & Contemporary live music, held in the unique atmosphere of South Hill Park's Cellar Bar... | |
| Who is Bob and why on earth would he be doing this? A question no doubt on everyone's lips, although not necessarily in a form that's quite so printable... I have been involved with South Hill Park since it's conception in the early 70's. I won't bore you with the details, but I have championed the Arts Centre as a local councillor and was fortunate to be involved both with the addition of the Wilde Theatre and more recently, being a Trustee since 1995, the complete rebuild of the internal area of the Old Mansion. Simply put, I love the place. My interests do not exclude any aspects of the Arts, but my preferences are; Music - Jazz, Blues, Rock and World Music, Theatre - I'll try anything! and I enjoy all the Visual Arts, particularly Cinema. Thanks to courses at South Hill Park, I play the harmonica - Blues and Jazz - and am involved in organising gigs for South Hill Park's Jazz and Blues family of local musicians. Although Jazz is always on the agenda, I have been frustrated over the years by the lack of regular Jazz and fortunately, William Trevelyan, the current music officer is keen to make such a thing possible. So, I agreed to co-promote Jazz 'n Stuff with William and have been a Jazz fan for around 50 years, since I was two years old. Oh all right two and a half. There is so much more relatively young talent now on the Jazz scene and the term Jazz covers such a wide spectrum that we all need to expose ourselves to what is happening. Part of SHP's mission is to enable people to widen their horizons and I hope to be able to present that opportunity. All sounds very pompous, which my wife tells me I am. So there you have it! May your groove go with you, Bob |
